What is LED?

A Light-Emitting Diode (LED) is a solid state device that converts electrical energy directly into light of various colours.

LEDs are widely used in the electronics world and can be found in all kinds of devices. They form numbers on digital clocks, transmit information from remote controls, light up watches an tell you when your appliances are turned on. In recent years, LEDs have been applied to many consumer products such as christmas decorations, flashlights and lamps. Many LEDs collected together can form images on a jumbo screen or illuminate a traffic light.
